Purpose:
- Provide learning opportunity for management and GIS technicians
- Improve understanding of the ways GIS is used to support fire, EMS, EOC operations
- Exchange best practices for using GIS to support SOC/accreditation process
Overview:
The two days of training, presentations, and interactive sessions will combine management and technical topics to provide a strong overview of how GIS can support all phases of the fire/EMS mission, with a strong emphasis on supporting the accreditation process.
Day One:
- GIS Basics (Management and Technical): Getting started with applying basic GIS tasks to the fire Service environment
- Management: Strategic thinking with GIS: How to plan for, use and support development of an effective GIS capacity for your department. The session will provide the background needed for the practical application of GIS to the Accreditation process. Attending this session will enrich your understanding of the Day Two morning sessions on using GIS to support the Accreditation process.
- Technical: Advanced topics in public safety GIS: Building street networks using ArcGIS
Day Two:
- Focus on GIS used to support the Accreditation process: Using GIS to support the strategic planning process and the development of your standards of cover.
- Greensboro Fire Department’s GIS group will present an overview of how they use GIS to support their fire department.
- Technical Briefing from ESRI: Web service applications; common operating pictures and spatial analysis for making the most of your data.
